Description
Can you find the dinosaur in the park? There are dinosaur parks all over the world, but this isn’t one of them. I was playing with lines and ended up with something that kind of looked like a dinosaur in the lower right corner. That gave me an excuse to learn a few things about dinosaurs. Like I really need an excuse to learn about anything!
• The name dinosaur means “frighteningly big lizard.”
• Dinosaurs appeared on earth about 243 million years ago and became extinct about 60 million years ago, except bird type dinosaurs.
• Fossils show that birds are modern feathered dinosaurs that evolved from theropods (flying dinosaurs with hollow bones and three-toed limbs).
• Land-based dinosaurs could weigh as much as 80 tons and measure 120 feet long or they could be as small as chickens. There were both meat-eating and plant-eating dinosaurs.
• Small mouse-like mammals existed alongside dinosaurs. Because of their size, they were able to scurry up trees to avoid be stomped on by dinosaurs.
• The term dinosaur applies only to land-dwelling reptiles with specific anatomical features. It does not include water reptiles, which existed up to 10 million years before dinosaurs.
• A meteor hitting the earth gradually led to extinction as temperatures dropped and the lack of sunlight led to lack of vegetation.
Speaking of dinosaurs, riddle me this…
Q. How do you ask a tyrannosaur out to lunch?
A. “Tea, Rex?"
Useless Fact…
"Velociraptor" means speedy thief.
Consider this…
“In the cookie of life friends are the chocolate chips.” ~Anonymous
Be Kind…
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” ~ Mother Teresa
