Description
The primary colors are the foundation of painting. Every other color that we see is based on these three colors. If you mix blue and yellow, you’ll get green. Throw some red into that green and you’ll get brown. If you read the Wikipedia post about primary colors, it doesn’t seem nearly so simple. The author writes about things like light spectrums, and the science and technology used to quantify and describe physically the human color perception. But for me and other like-minded people, they are beautiful, pure colors that are the foundation of my artwork and my world.
I have another, perhaps stronger connection to the primary colors. When I was a child, we sang a song in Sunday School about the primary colors. Here are the lyrics.
“Our Primary Colors”
“Our Primary colors are one, two, three—
Red, yellow, and blue.
Each one has a message for you and me.
Each is a symbol true!
Red is for courage to do what is right,
Yellow for service from morning till night.
Blue is for truth in our thought and our deed.
We will be happy when this is our creed.”
~ Marzelle Mangum
It is this simple children’s song, among many things, that has helped shaped my life and I often catch myself humming it when I am by myself.
If we could each find a way to do what is right, to help others and be truthful in our thoughts and deeds I think we would find ourselves living in a kinder, safer world.
Speaking of colors, riddle me this…
Q: Why did the Orange go out with a Prune?
A: Because he couldn't find a Date!
Word of the Week
Discombobulate: To confuse, upset, frustrate.
