Description
Welcome to the Gray Bar Hotel
“Gray Bar Hotel” is a euphemism for jail. It first appeared in the mid-1960s at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Some prisoners were ashamed of being in jail, so they told their family and friends they were staying at the Gray Bar Hotel. Within just a few years “The Gray Bar Hotel, Los Angeles, CA” was considered a valid mailing address by the U.S. Postal Service.
Speaking of jail, riddle me this:
Q. Why did the picture go to jail?
A. Because it was framed.
