Artist's Description
Having Fun…
…And fun is SERIOUS business. Just ask Charles Darwin, Jean Piaget, Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. These are a few of the people who have researched and written about the nature of fun. According to Dutch historian Johan Huizinga, fun is "an absolutely primary category of life, familiar to everybody at a glance right down to the animal level." Fun changes our perception of time as in “time flies when you’re having fun.”
According to psychologist Travis Tae Oh PhD., fun takes many forms but has two critical elements. “Fun give a person a sense of liberation and hedonic engagement which features active involvement and immersion into an activity that is intended for pure enjoyment.” For example, I created this painting just for fun. I ignored the rules, painted outside the lines, played with color and had a good time. It was definitely engaging and liberating. It felt so good not to worry about mistakes or “what if”.
